Ljubljana, 7 September - Agriculture was at the forefront this week, as the commission assessing consequences of natural disasters revealed that farmers suffered about EUR 135 of damages this year. As a result, some 17,000 requests were filed for the 20,000 tonnes of state maize that was released from emergency reserves to alleviate the consequences of drought. To make sure that the meat - the meat market was flooded since farmers started selling off animals en masse - Slovenian and EU consumers eat is safe, a European veterinary inspection made a five-day visit and concluded that the progress the meat-processing facilities have made since the last inspection was good.
