Protest and Appeal of Junij Group
Ljubljana, 4 July - Junij Group, who have carried out their activities since 1970 and organized several engaged exhibitions featuring over two hundred artists from forty countries and all the continents, are sending this appeal to all of their fellow artists living in the area spreading from Tokyo to New York to stake all their moral integrity and creative powers to influence their public and their government, which may help in stopping this uncontrolled militant drive that has made an attempt to conquer the small yet peace-loving country of Slovenia, which declared its independence and sovereignty according to the will of its people on June 26, 1991. Through means of their engaged artistic expression, the group have stood for human rights, freedom and freedoms, democracy, peace, and as such condemned the growing spirit of militarism, existing divisions in the world, hegemony, imperialism, racism, and reactionary tendencies. Therefore, in this critical moment they are witnesses of in Slovenia, the members feel they are called upon to utter their cry in protest of the uncivilized and brutal force of militarism.
