A SURVEY OF THE RADIO AND TELEVISION REPORTS IN SLOVENIA AND IN THE SLOVENE PRESS.
Ljubljana, 12 July - The Slovene mass media have devoted much attention to the catastrophic state of this year's tourist season in Slovenia, resulting from the recent events in Yugoslavia. Although the prognosis was still fairly optimistic in mid June, the war has persuaded almost all the domestic and foreign tourists to flee our tourist resorts. In Bled, where last year at this time, they registered over four thousand overnight stays, the hotels have almost all closed down, with the exception of Hotel Toplice and Hotel Bled, which both together have a total of 15 domestic and 6 foreign guests to care for. The hotels along the Slovene coast are also closing shop for the season, as the whole of Portorož has registered a total of 296 guests so far this season, of which only 64 were from abroad. Rough estimates evaluate the direct damage suffered by the tourist industry in Slovenia due to the war at about 185 million USD. Cancellations of holiday arrangements are also still raining in on the Slovene health resorts, which are also, on the whole, almost empty.
