Eagleburger: Slovenia is becoming a conventional State
Ljubljana, 20 July - The foreign minister, Dr. Dimitrij Rupel and Igor Omerza, Director General of Social Accounting Services, who are returning to Slovenia today, have in the USA, before their talks at the State Department, met with seven US Senators and a number of Congressmen. Mr. Lawrence Eagleburger, who during Mr. Baker's absence leads American diplomacy, made it know to Mr. Rupel that in the eyes of American diplomacy, Slovenia is becoming a conventional State, which is expected to behave responsibly. Both the Senators and other government representatives were interested to know, what Slovenia is attempting to accomplish during the following three month period? Mr. Rupel explained the plan or the vision of the future relationships within Yugoslavia and emphasized that Slovenia is prepared to play a constructive role in support of the integrity of Yugoslavia, although the kind of Yugoslavia that does not include Slovenia.
