Rupel: I have had very important talk with Eagleburger
Ljubljana, 21 July - On returning from the first ever visit by Slovenian diplomats to U.S. authorities without the mediation of the Yugoslav diplomacy, foreign minister dr Dimitrij Rupel said in a special interview to Slovenian TV that he had had a very important talk with Lawrence Eagleburger. The talk related to Slovenia's independence which both sides denoted as possible, but only in a peaceful way. They also talked about the normalization of cooperation between the U.S. and Slovenian banks. Dr Rupel assured Mr Eagleburger that the Yugoslav army withdrawal from Slovenia did not mean an attack on Croatia. Director of the Slovenian Public Auditing Service, Igor Omerza, who accompanied minister Rupel on the visit, said that there are pressures in the United States in favour of a selective treatment of Slovenia even before it wins full recognition.
