TODAY'S SURVEY OF THE ARTICLES IN SLOVENE NEWSPAPERS
Ljubljana, 24 July - DELO: Why Can't We Agree Once and For All? July 25. - There is no longer any doubt regarding Slovenia's intention of forming its own regular army, which is why it is highly inappropriate to show pictures of the devastation left in the wake of the Yugoslav Army, while at the same time discussing the war reparation to be paid by the aggressor, i.e. the Yugoslav Army, partly by the Army's giving up a portion of its arms. It is even more out of place to agree upon starting points for the technical aspects of the YA withdrawal and to expect that the opposing party will even remotely consider putting such points on the agenda of talks between Slovenia and the Yugoslav Army Command in Zagreb. This is why we must agree once and for all whether we want a Slovenia with a Yugoslav Army or without one, a Slovenia at peace, or on the constant verge of war, since three types of faces are currently crystallizing themselves on the Slovene poltical scene: those capable of functioning equally well under both peacetime and wartime conditions, those capable of functioning well only under wartime conditions and those not capable of functioning in either war or peace, wrote Miran Lesjak.
