Speculations regarding the possible change in the Slovene government
Ljubljana, 30 July - Various unofficial statements and speculations regarding the possible change in the Slovene government have received an extensive media coverage. The public explanation of Mr. Janez Janša, regarding his proposals given at the last two meeting of DEMOS, could explain these speculations. In his explanation he stated that at the July 25 meeting of DEMOS's coalition and after a thorough analysis concerning the state of affairs and evaluations of possible future developments, he gave an number of concrete proposals for a more effective organization of the Coalition, the essential part of which were certain changes of the government personnel. He suggested that the government be formed by a new mandatary, who should use the criteria for choosing the new ministers according to ability and expertise of the candidates. It would still remain a government in DEMOS's control, since it would be controlled by the Coalition's majority in the Assembly, but the influence of the parties would not be exerted only by the choice of ministers according to party affiliation because this has a negative effect on the team's adaptation to the new circumstances, in cases where it becomes a predominant criteria. Mr. Janša emphasizes that the endeavors for independence are far from completed and that they should not be underestimated. His proposal did not originate out of a criticism of the present government actions. Mr. Janša says that his proposal is informal, not out of party interests and not an ultimatum.
