Review of Events in Slovenia between June 11 and 17

Lively activity and discussions about it are the main feature of the past week. The withdrawal of the National Democratic Party (NDS), wing of the Slovenian Christian Democrats (SKD), from the common party, not only opened the question of a possible crisis of the SKD and its future orientation, but also - consequentially - the question of governmental coalition and its possible changes. Leader of the SKD Lojze Peterle regretted the decision of the NDS, but he assured that "the decision of the NDS for autonomous future will not influence relations and conditions in the coalition and government". Prime Minister Janez Drnovšek was less categoric regarding this question. At the council of his Liberal Democracy of Slovenia he said that the SKD is in crisis, so the decision on possible changes in government coalition will have to be postponed.
