The Trade Union of Medical and Social Care Workers threatens to go on strike

Ljubljana, 19 September - The Strike Committee of the Trade Union of Medical and Social Care Workers disclosed its demands aimed at improving the economic and social position of the workers employed in medical and social care as well as its demands for improving the economic position of these activities at a press conference today. The Committee claims that all the budgetary funding should be used exclusively for these purposes. Up till now these funds were used also for other activities while the budgetary deficit in medical care is growing. The medical care workers also demand that a collective contract be signed guaranteeing a ratio 1:6,4 between the lowest and the top wage as is the case for the state administration. Those that were underpaid assuming these conditions should be compensated with suitable retribution. The growth of salaries in medical and social care should be coordinated with the growth in other areas of economy. The trade union claims that the budgetary deficit in medical care should not be a burden for medical care workers alone. Proper standardizations and normatives should be issued that will form a basis for the numerous of medical care workers. A programme for reemployment of the technological surplus in medical and social care should be worked out. If this demands will not be met until September 25. noon, the Trade Union will declare a strike to begin on October 10. Among their demands is also the resignation of the Minister of Medical, Family and Social Care, dr. Katja Boh, her deputy, dr. Košir, and the vice-president of the Executive Council of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr. Malešič.
