Only aid of a political and diplomatic nature is possible

Rome, 20 September - A debate on the developments in Yugoslavia is currently in progress in the Italian Senate. the introductory report was given by Foreign Minister De Michelis, who said the Italian Government - and with it the whole of Europe, is of the opinion that "..there is no other possible option, especially not of a military nature, apart from the political-diplomatic one," which is also the main message of yesterday's session of the European Community and the West European Union. De Michelis stressed that all attempts to change the borders by force are unacceptable. Regarding Italy's policy, he said "..there will be no alteration of the current policy and no possibility of giving way to pressures to function outside of the frame of operations agreed to by the European countries."
