Australian Envoy in Ljubljana

Ljubljana, 22 September - Member of the Australian parliament, Dr. Andrew Theophanous, who visited Croatia these past few days, arrived in Ljubljana today. The Secretary of the Sub-Committee for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defense of the Australian parliament and President of the parliamentary committee, who is for the immediate acknowledgement of Slovenia and Croatia said, that Australia will most likely be among the first countries to acknowledge Slovenia and Croatia. He spoke with Dr. Matjaž Kmecl, Dr. Ludvik Toplak and with General Secretary of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, Matjaž Kovačič, in Ljubljana today. The distinguished guest spoke about Australia's efforts to place the crisis in Yugoslavia on the agenda of the of the session of the United Nations as soon as possible. He stressed the great importance of Slovenian emigrants in helping and understanding the situation in Slovenia and in carrying into effect Slovenian attempts for the acknowledgment of the Republic of Slovenia as an independent, sovereign country as soon as possible. He will inform Australian Ministerial President Bob Hawke on the situation in Slovenia upon his return to Australia.
