Cooperatives Should Merge, Farmers' Union Says
Ljubljana, 29 April - The number of farms in Slovenia dropped from 112,000 to 77,000 between 1991 and 2003, while the average size increased from 5 to 6.2 hectares. The trend is expected to continue after EU accession, the secretary general of the Farmers' Trade Union Janez Pirc told the press Thursday, adding that this is how Slovenian farms are adjusting to the new realities.
