Ljubljana, 13 May - Below is a schedule of events for Friday, 14 May:

2004 EUROPEAN ELECTIONS (STA)

LJUBLJANA - The election campaign is to begin prior to the 13 June elections to the European Parliament, and should finish 24 hours prior to the vote. 14 May is the last day for lists of candidates to be submitted with the National Electoral Commission.

LJUBLJANA - The United List of Social Democrats (ZLSD) is to submit its list of candidates for the European elections at 10 AM.

LJUBLJANA - The recently-established party "Slovenia Is Ours" is to file its slate for European elections and give a press conference at noon.

LJUBLJANA - The parliamentary foreign policy committee is to convene for a partly closed-door session to discuss the IGC and the session of the EU Council for general affairs and external relations, both due on 17 and 18 May in Brussels; at 9 AM. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - The ministers of economics; and education, science and sport Matej Lahovnik and Slavko Gaber, respectively are to present a fourth tender for R&D projects for 2004 within the Slovenia's Competitiveness 2001-2006 programme; 10:30 AM. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - A delegation of the Croatian police led by its director Ivica Franic is to pay an official visit to meet director general of the Slovenian police Darko Anzelj as part of regular annual meetings of top police officials; press conference at 12:30 PM. (STA)

WATERDORD, Ireland - Minister of the Environment, Energy and Spatial Planning Janez Kopac is to attend a three-day informal meeting of EU environment ministers.

LJUBLJANA - A team of EU veterinary inspectors checking rabies monitoring in Slovenia is to complete their five-day mission here.

CRNI KAL - The new Transport Minister Marko Pavliha is to speak to the press at 1 PM about his recent tour of major Slovenian transport and logistics companies.

LJUBLJANA - The Agency for the Environment is to speak about climate changes and agriculture in Slovenia at a news conference at 11 AM.

LJUBLJANA - The essential oils and flavourings company, Etol is to mark its 80th birthday, with GZS chair Jozko Cuk as the key-note speaker at 11 AM.

LJUBLJANA - Changes in the competitive environment of the Slovenian economy are to be presented as the Institute of Economic Research presents two surveys on global competitiveness at 12:30 PM. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - A book launch of "Entering Europe without Europeans" by Ales Debeljak, at 11 AM, is to be accompanied by a discussion about fears and hopes of Slovenians - the newcomers from the East. (STA)

UDINE, Italy - Culture Minister Andreja Rihter is to attend the opening of a two-day conference "A New Idea about Europe; History, Economy and Politics", one in a series of events marking Slovenia's EU entry.

GORIZIA, Italy - A panel "At the Treshold of a New Europe: Slovenia in the EU - Perspectives for Employment in Border Areas" is to take place, to be attended by two members of the Slovenian minority in Italy; at 6 PM (STA)

PORTOROZ - The 3rd international congress on suicide, entitled "Suicide at the Meeting Point of Genes and Environment", is to open with an address by director of the Public Health Institute Andrej Marusic, a suicidologist; at 9 AM.
