Ljubljana, 20 May - Below is a schedule of events for Friday, 21 May:

LJUBLJANA - The parliamentary commission on European affairs and the Slovenian part of the EU-Slovenian Joint Parliamentary Committee are to meet behind closed doors to examine a report from the 17 May sessions of the EU Council on General Affairs and External Relations and the Competitiveness Council. The chairs of both committees, Alojz Peterle and Roman Jakic, are to give statements for the press at 9:30 AM. (STA)

BRDO PRI KRANJU - Finance Minister Dusan Mramor is to attend the fourth regional conference of finance ministers from Stability Pact countries, where the ministers are to exchange experience gained in public finance reforms in the run-up to EU membership. Also expected to attend is Janez Potocnik, Slovenia's member of the European Commission. A press conference is scheduled for noon. (STA)

PORTOROZ - The 21st stock market and finance conference is to draw to a close. Miha Juhart of the Ljubljana Faculty of Law is to talk about the act on takeovers and the new securities market act, while Janez Sustersic, the director of the government Institute for Macroeconomic Analyses and Development, is to outline macroeconomic expectations following EU entry. LJUBLJANA - The Parliament is to confirm amendments to the act on higher education on the last day of its regular session. Before the session starts, the home policy committee is to convene for an extraordinary session to review the latest initiative for a referendum on the systemic bill on the erased. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - President of the opposition New Slovenia (NSi) Andrej Bajuk is to talk to the press at 11 AM to explain the reasons why he resigned from the post of chairman of the parliamentary budget and public finance oversight commission. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel and Milena Smit, the head of the Trade Union of Slovenian Diplomats, are to speak at a ceremony at 11 AM to mark Day of Slovenian Diplomats, declared by the government in memory of the day in 1992 when Slovenia became a member of the United Nations.

LJUBLJANA - Interior Minister Rado Bohinc is to talk to the press at 11 AM to present the functioning of a new procedure for police complaints, which was introduced three months ago.

LJUBLJANA - Slovenia and Luxembourg are to hold political consultations on the work of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The Slovenian side will be headed by Foreign Ministry State Secretary Samuel Zbogar; the Luxembourger side will be led by Ambassador Martine Schommer.

KOPER - Interior Minister Rado Bohinc is due to visit Schengen border crossings with Croatia in the Koper region.

CATEZ OB SAVI - Power trader Eles Gen is to hold a press conference at 11 AM to present the company's operations in 2003.

LJUBLJANA - The Trade Union of Metal and Electronic Industries (SKEI) is to talk to the press at 12:30 PM to present the results of negotiations on the tariff parts of the collective agreement for the industry, and preparations for a 26 May strike.

LJUBLJANA - The tourism and casino company Hit is to talk to the press at 11 AM to present the refurbished tourist resort Maestral on the Montenegrin coast.

LJUBLJANA - The Centre for Public Opinion and Mass Media Research is to present at 11 AM the results of the latest Politbarometer survey. (STA)

MARIAZELL, Austria - Some 5,000 Slovenian pilgrims are expected to take part in a three-day gathering of Catholics from Central Europe.

LJUBLJANA - The Ljubljana Association for Animal Protection is to talk to the press at 10 AM to present the pan-European organisation Eurogroup for Animal Welfare, and challenge candidates for members of the European Parliament to speak up about animal rights.

LJUBLJANA - Over 15,700 students are to dance the quadrille in 17 Slovenian cities as well as Italy's Trieste and Croatia's Pula at noon in a bid to improve the Guiness world record that was set at a similar event a year ago.
