Ljubljana, 18 October - The DELO: PLEASANT NORMALIZATION - The day on which Slovenia has grown considerably in international esteem has, it seems, finally arrived, though quietly, on tip-toes and unexpectedly. The turning-point in the Italian government's basic viewpoints regarding the acknowledgement of the actual situation in the Balkans, i.e. regarding the fact that Yugoslavia has finally ceased to exist and that it is necessary to turn one's thoughts to building international relations with the former country's inheritors, was reached in as normal, natural and as pragmatical a way as possible, which can be summed up in a few brief phrases: the situation has changed, new developments are slowly sweeping aside the obstacles which until now hindered the granting of international recognition, we have begun to look towards the future; wrote Mojca Drčar-Murko and went on to say: Although Italy still lays stress on the need for the unification of standpoints within the European Community, it is a matter of no small importance that it has chosen to join the side which favours the immediate granting of recognition to Slovenia and Croatia.
