Weekly Review of Events Involving Slovenia from 15 to 21 May

Ljubljana, 22 May - EU foreign ministers restarted negotiations on the EU's constitution at the beginning of the week, yet since there is still no consensus on the key issues - the composition of the European Commission and decision-making - the Irish EU presidency scheduled a new round of talks for next week. The constitution also topped the agenda when Irish PM Bertie Ahern paid a visit to Slovenia. The parliament, meanwhile, managed the crucial step and created a new EU affairs committee in charge of EU issues. Yet there was more that the MPs had to deal with, most notably two new referendum initiatives related to the systemic bill on the erased. This week also brought a treat for history buffs - the National and University Library unveiled the Freising Monuments, the oldest preserved writings in Slovenian.
