Weekly Review of Events Involving Slovenia from 22 to 29 May

Ljubljana, 29 May - Making headlines this week was the two-day visit by Prime Minister Anton Rop to the Vatican, where he exchanged ratification instruments for the bilateral agreement on legal issues with Secretary of the Holy See for Relations with States Angelo Sodano. Earlier in the week, Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel came out of the latest round of talks on the EU constitution visibly more happy than the last time around, when he issued a grim warning that a compromise may not be reached in time for June's EU summit. With summer on the doorstep the first border incident involving Croatia was registered, as a Croatian fishing cooperative moored two buoys on the Slovenian side of the line dividing the Piran Bay. Slovenia's Foreign Ministry has already protested the act with Croatian authorities.
