Ljubljana, 28 May - The payroll tax has a disagreeable past. The government introduced it in 1996 as a temporary levy. The tax was a substitute for a 4-percent cut in social contributions, which the employers had hoped would reduce labour costs, Delo notes in Friday's editorial headlined "Temporary Levy Lasting for Eight Years".
