Schedule of Events for Tuesday, 1 June

Ljubljana, 31 May - Below is a schedule of events for Tuesday, 1 June:

LJUBLJANA - European Enlargement Commissioner Guenter Verheugen is to pay a visit to Slovenia accompanied by the Slovenian European Commissioner in charge of enlargement Janez Potocnik. Verheugen is to be received by President Janez Drnovsek, PM Anton Rop and Europe Minister Milan Cvikl. On the occasion, Drnovsek is expected to award Verheugen with a state order for his achievements in international diplomacy at noon. A press conference is scheduled for 3 PM, while Verheugen is expected to hold a talk on the challenges and opportunities in the enlarged EU at 4 PM. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - The association Kljuc (Key), an NGO fighting trafficking in person, is to host a conference on the prevention of trafficking in persons entitled "Are We Aware?". The events starts at 1:30 PM and a press conference is scheduled for 4:40 PM. (STA)

RABAT, Morocco - Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel is to pay an official visit to Morocco at the invitation of his Moroccan counterpart Mohamed Benaissa. Rupel is also scheduled to meet with Moroccan Prime Minister Driss Jettou, Minister of Foreign Trade Mustapha Mechahouri and speakers of upper and lower chambers of the Moroccan parliament.

LUXEMBOURG, Luxembourg - Labour Minister Vlado Dimovski is to attend the first day of a two-day session of the EU Council on Employment, Social Policy and Health and Consumer Protection. Health Minister Dusan Keber is to join the meeting on Wednesday.

BRUSSELS, Belgium - Environmental awards for 2004 are to be conferred as part of the Europe-wide Green Week. Slovenia's Gorenje, a maker of household appliances, and Elpa, a specialist in industrial lubricating technologies, are among the nominees.

LJUBLJANA - The Slovenian Bishops' Conference is to present a statement entitled "Opportunity for the Fulfillment of Our Values", which the European Bishops' Conference drafted to address voters ahead of elections to the European Parliament. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - A special government commission for mass graves is to talk to the press at 11 AM.

LJUBLJANA - Insurance company Zavarovalnica Triglav is scheduled to hold a press conference at noon to present the company's 2003 results. (STA)

KOPER - Logistics company Intereuropa is to talk to the press at 10 AM to present Q1 business results.

LJUBLJANA - Internet services provider Siol it to host a press conference at 11 AM to mark the subscription of the 50,000th customer for its broadband Internet access and talk about the development of broadband services.

LJUBLJANA - The Bank of Slovenia is to organise a research seminar at 4 PM at which Tomas Holub of the Czech central bank will present the results of a survey entitled "Price Convergence in EU Accession Countries: Challenges for Monetary Policy".

LJUBLJANA - A seminar on public procurement after EU entry is to start at 9 AM to mark the release of a publication on the act on public procurement. The event is organised by the publisher GV Zalozba.

PORTOROZ - The beginning of the Slovenian Marketing Conference, a two-day event entitled "Marketing in Business Strategy - Ways to Implementation". The conference starts at 9:30 AM with a plenary and a round-table debate.

PORTOROZ - The Faculty of Transport and Marine Studies is to hold a press conference to present results of a survey on the impact of ballast waters in Slovenia.

MENGES - The Association of Slovenian Municipalities is to convene for the regular annual meeting at 10 AM to discuss the work done in 2003 and confirm the planned activities for this year.

EUROPEAN ELECTIONS 2004

LJUBLJANA - The non-parliamentary Party of Ecological Movements is to present its candidates for the European Parliament elections and the party's election agenda at 11 AM.

KRSKO - Slovenia Is Ours is to stage a regional forum at 5 PM as part of the campaign for elections to the European Parliament. The party's top candidate Alja Brglez is expected to attend.
