Position of minorities

Ljubljana, 29 October - President of the Assembly of Slovenia and chairman of the Assembly Commission on Constitutional Affairs, dr. France Bučar, today received representatives of the Slovenian Community of Trieste, National Council of Carinthian Slovenes, Christian Cultural Association and Unified List from Klagenfurt. The ensuing talk focused on the position of minorities as defined in the Slovenian constitution and the attitude of the Republic of Slovenia to Slovenian minority in the neighbouring countries. They noted that the proposed solution concerning the position of the Italian and Hungarian minorities in Slovenia can serve as a model for regulating the position of other minorities in neighbouring countries. A suggestion was made that a provision granting the Slovenes in the neghbouring countries and all over the world the possibility to enjoy in Slovenia equal rights as the citizens of Slovenia be incorporated in the Slovenian constitution.
