Weekly Review of Events Involving Slovenia from 19 to 25 June

Ljubljana, 26 June - Prime Minister Anton Rop asked parliament to dismiss Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel. The move came after Rupel defied his party, the ruling Liberal Democracy (LDS), and went ahead with attending the Assembly for the Republic, a forum featuring leading opposition officials, despite being asked not to do so. Rupel, meanwhile, said the LDS was acting like a communist party and he was being punished for speaking his mind. The development coincided with celebrations of the 13th anniversary of independence.
