Schedule of Events for Friday, 9 July

Ljubljana, 8 July - Below is a schedule of events for Friday, 9 July:

LJUBLJANA - The regular session of parliament, the last one before the autumn general election, is set to begin at 10 AM. The busy agenda includes the appointment of a new leadership, as the speaker and one of the deputy speakers are leaving their posts to become European lawmakers. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - The parliamentary foreign policy committee is scheduled to meet at 9 AM to debate topics to be discussed by the EU council for general affairs and external relations on 12 and 13 July.

LJUBLJANA - The parliament's EU affairs committee is to hold its weekly session behind closed doors at 2 PM to review conclusions of the EU council meeting of 29 June, among other issues.

MAASTRICHT, The Netherlands - EU ministers in charge of social affairs and employment, including Slovenian Minister of Labour, Family and Social Affairs Vlado Dimovski, are to convene for an informal meeting to discuss ways to upgrade social security systems.

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands - The beginning of a two-day informal meeting of EU transport ministers focusing on aviation and short-distance marine transport. Slovenia's Marko Pavliha is expected to attend.

LJUBLJANA - The Government Office of Structural Policy and Regional Development is to host a business meeting starting at 9 AM at which the work of the recently established development council for Slovenians living abroad is to be presented. Participants are to be greeted by PM Anton Rop and Regional Development Minister Zdenka Kovac.

LJUBLJANA - Interior and justice ministers, Rado Bohinc and Zdenka Cerar, are to talk to the press at 1 PM to present current projects that both ministries work on.
