Kučan statement after peace conference in the Hague

Ljubljana, 5 November - "Slovenia agrees with the proposal for the establishment of a Yugoslav state composed of the republics which wish to join that state, but that is only one of the possibilities", said Kučan at a press conference in the Hague. Kučan rejected the proposal by Serbia and Montenegro for these two republics to establish a state which would be named Yugoslavia. President Kučan said he welcomes the possibility of establishing a free market between the republics, adding that he would like to see negotiations on that opened as soon as possible. It would be wrong to continue the peace conference while fighting is in progress and a satisfactory solution cannot be reached, Kučan said.
