Croatian GM Wins 15th Ljubljana Open Chess Tournament
Ljubljana, 16 July - Croatian Grand Master Mladen Palac won the 15th Ljubljana Open chess tournament and the Milan Vidmar Memorial with 7 points. In the final, ninth round, the fourth seeded Croatian held a draw with compatriot Robert Zelcic, which sufficed for a victory. Slovenia's International Master Janez Barle also drew with Serbia-Montenegro's Ivan Ivanisevic, thus placing second.
