Weekly Review of Slovenian Business & Economy from 10 to 16 July

Ljubljana, 18 July - The European Commission revealed the proposal for the 2007-2013 financial perspective, according to which Slovenia would remain a beneficiary of funds from the EU budget. While the distant future may look bright for Slovenia, the EU 2005 budget is far from expected, as Slovenia is disappointed with the amount of funds allocated to agriculture. Meanwhile, the government approved the merger between the country's second largest bank, Nova Kreditna banka Maribor (NKBM), and PBS, the postal bank, in what is seen as a landmark step in the consolidation of the Slovenian banking market. By signing a contract with Renault car producer Revoz, the government ensured that the Slovenian company will produce the new Renault model. Many companies received new leadership this week, among them drug maker Krka, whose new chairman of the board will be Joze Colaric, while newspaper publisher Delo will be led by Tomaz Perovic.
