On citizenship and employment

Ljubljana, 8 November - The Ministry of the Interior has informed all the state bodies, companies, institutions and other privately or publicly owned organizations of the Republic of Slovenia that they have no legal right yet to demand proof of Slovene citizenship from all current and would-be employees. According to Article 13. of the Constitutional Law on the Realization of the Basic Constitutional Document of the Independence and Sovereignty of the Republic of Slovenia, and according to Article 81. of the Law on Foreigners, all citizens of other Yugoslav republics who were registered on the 23.12.1990 as permanent residents of the Republic of Slovenia who do in fact live in this republic, are, at least until the 25.2.1992, entitled to equal rights and to fulfill the same duties as all citizens of the Republic of Slovenia, if they have applied for Slovene citizenship. They are therefore not to be counted as foreigners until the expiration of this date.
