REVIEW OF IMPORTANT EVENTS IN SLOVENIA FROM NOVEMBER 4 TO NOVEMBER 9, 1991

Ljubljana, 10 November - Events in the past week affirm those predictions which have for some time now been mentioning the possibility of accepting economic sanctions against all republics of former Yugoslavia. And because continuation of the peace conference at the beginning of the week in the Hague fell apart only after one hour of discussions, due to the additional Serbian and Montenegrian proposals, while conflicts in Croatia had been continuing all week and lately also intensifying, to which reports from all battlefields testify, the foreign ministers of the European Community held in Rome on Friday finally decided to take the long anticipated step. The Slovenian public opinion is faced with the question of whether the taken measures really mean "the finishing stroke" for Yugoslavia as stated by the commentator of the daily Slovenian newspaper Delo or there is still hope, in the background, that the Balkan comes to its senses. This would mean, for the internationale orientated Europeans, a way of preserving some kind of unity on the territory of Yugoslavia.
