Romania will not comply with the European Community's sanctions against Yugoslavia
Bucharest, 15 November - Romania will not respond to the European Community's call for economic sanctions against Yugoslavia, Romaninan President Ion Iliescu told reporters today. "We can not accept such demands," said President Iliescu during a brief interview for Reuter. "We can not ignore the fact that any limitations or breaking off of our current cooperation with Yugoslavia could have grave consequences for our economy," said the President. Last year, Romania's imports from Yugoslavia amounted to 4.6 billion Lejs' worth, while its total exports to Yugoslavia were valued at 3.16 billion Lejs.
