Ljubljana, 26 November - Slovenian Foreign Minister Dr. Dimitrij Rupel held a lecture at the 23rd National Convention of the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies in Miami on November 25. At the convention which brought together about 2,000 scholars and politicians from eastern and central Europe and the U.S., Dr. Rupel talked about the position of Slovenia and the attitudes of individual countries and groups of countries to the issue of Slovenia's recognition. Minister Rupel, like many other participants, emphasized that the EC's and USA's hesitating to recognize new realities and relations in the territory of former Yugoslavia is protracting the war and leading to an economic collapse of Slovenia. During the convention the minister met with a large group of participants from among the ranks of Slovenian emigrants in the U.S.
