Šešok: Ljubljanska Banka d.d. has full Government support

Ljubljana, 28 November - "The Government is fully supporting Ljubljanska Banka d.d.", said the Minister of Finance, Mr. Dušan Šešok, on Thursday. Such was the reaction of the Government on the tumultuous response of the domestic and international financial circles, following the Reuter's Tuesday report, where some statements of the governmental economy adviser, Mr. Boris Pleskovič, and the Vice-Governor of the Bank of Slovenia, Mr. Marko Kranjc, were cited on the Slovenian banking system. According to the statement of Mr. Šešok, following today's session of the Slovenian Government, it restrained itself from the statements of both financial experts. Some of the data cited by Reuter are of confidential nature, said Mr. Šešok, adding that " LB d.d. is promptly paying all its obligations towards foreign creditors", drawing also attention to the fact that this bank is in a much more difficult position then some of the other banks established of late, since historically it had to participate in some dubious, but politically rewarding, investments. The Slovenian Government has no doubts that competition is imperative in the banking business, but it should be arrived at in a "natural way".
