Statement from the session of the Slovene Presidency

Ljubljana, 29 November - A session of the Slovene Presidency was held today in Ljubljana. The session was attended also by Vice-president of the Government Matija Malešič, Ministers Igor Bavčar, Janez Janša and Jelko Kacin and the Chief of Slovene Territorial Defence Headquarters Janez Slapar. During this session, the starting-points of the concept of the national safety and defence strategy of the Republic of Slovenia were decided upon. These points will also be forwarded to the Slovene Parliament by the Presidency. The starting-points are based on ensuring the safety of the republic by pursuing a policy of peaceful cooperation in all international relations, through the cultivation of good relations with the country's neighbours and by attempting to solve any eventual disputes with other countries through non-violent means. In the event that Slovenia would be attacked despite all efforts, the country will also prepare to defend itself through use of all available means and forces - including force of arms.
