Schedule of Events for Thursday, 30 September

Ljubljana, 29 September - Below is a schedule of events for Thursday, 30 September:

LJUBLJANA - The government is to hold its weekly session to discuss, among other items, a report on the 1998 post-quake reconstruction of the Posocje region. (STA)

BLED - The Constitutional Court and the Venice Commission are to organise a two-day international conference on the position of the constitutional courts after EU enlargement. The event, attended by chairs of constitutional courts from all ten EU newcomers, is to be launched at 10 AM. (STA)

THE HAGUE, The Netherlands - A two-day meeting of the EU justice and interior ministers will begin with the participation of Slovenian Justice Minister Zdenka Cerar and Interior Minister Rado Bohinc.

LJUBLJANA - Head of the European Commission Representation Office in Slovenia Erwan Fouere is to sign contracts for Phare Small Project grants at 3:15 PM. The evaluation committee chose seven projects which will receive a total of EUR 250,000.

LJUBLJANA - A conference on peace treaties is to start at 5 PM, organised by the National Council, the society for international relations and civil forum.

LJUBLJANA - The Slovenian Railways is to hold a ceremony at the launch of connection with Istanbul, dubbed the "East Express". Transport Minister Marko Pavliha is to attend the event beginning at 11 AM. (STA)

PORTOROZ - The Manager Association is to hold its traditional meeting. On the occasion, the 2004 Manager award will be conferred to Sonja Gole in a ceremony at 8 PM. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - The Statistics Office is to present data on inflation, purchasing power and GDP for the period 1995-2003, at a news conference at 10:30 AM. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - The Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry is to hold a news conference at 9 AM to present its stance on the government decision that farmers should return part of the 2003 aid received for drought damage.

LJUBLJANA - Croatian citizens who held accounts in the branches of now defunct Slovenian bank Ljubljanska banka are to hold a news conference at 11 AM.

LJUBLJANA - A two-day traditional festival of senior citizens is to be launched.

LJUBLJANA - An anthology of Slovenian youth literature in English translation, entitled "Tales Growing Up Into Secrets", is to be presented at a press conference at 11 AM.

MARIBOR, Slovenia/ATHENS, Greece - Slovenian football clubs Maribor and Nova Gorica are to play the return legs of their UEFA Cup 1st round matches. Maribor will be chasing a 2:3 deficit against Parma at home, while Nova Gorica will be trying to improve on the 1:1 first-leg draw against AEK Athens in their away match. (STA)

2004 GENERAL ELECTION

LJUBLJANA - The last day of preliminary voting.

LJUBLJANA - Voters who cannot come to the polls due to illness have to submit a request to vote at home.

LJUBLJANA - The senior coalition Liberal Democracy (LDS) are to hold a news conference at 10:30 AM, with PM Anton Rop presenting his plans for the new government.

LJUBLJANA - The opposition People's Party (SLS) is to hold a news conference at 1 PM to comment on the government initiative for an incident avoidance agreement with Croatia.

LJUBLJANA - The opposition Youth Party (SMS) is to hold its final rally at 4:15 PM.

LJUBLJANA - The junior coalition United List (ZLSD) is to hold its final rally at 7 PM.
