The right to real estate as an exception for foreign countries

Ljubljana, 5 December - The Republican Constitutional Committee accepted today an additional provision to the Constitutional Law for the Implementation of the Constitution, according to which "foreign states may acquire ownership rights to real estate used for diplomatic consulate activities". This supplement was proposed by the deputy prime-minister, Dr. Leo Šešerko, because the government has already received a few requests for opening up foreign diplomatic consulates where, according to international law, they own the land and building in which these premises are situated. He mentioned an example of the Baltic states, where the representatives of some states came with the purpose of opening their diplomatic consulates, but departed when they discovered that not all conditions were met.
