Haulers go on strike
Ljubljana, 6 December - The strike staged by Slovenia's long-distance haulage drivers announced itself this morning at 5 a.m. in the form of convoys and road-blocks. The Haulers' Strikers' Committee and Trade Union leaders met first with the Minister of Transport and Communications Marjan Kranjc, followed by negotiations at 12 noon in the Slovene Chamber of Economy (GZS). The spokesmen for the strikers evaluated the talks as having gone off well, but the President of the Road Transport Trade Union of Slovenia, Zoran Alijević added that the "duration of the strike depended on the stance taken by the GZS." He also said the strike would not be called off until further notice and will continue tomorrow in the form of additional road-blocks, in the event that an agreement is not reached.
