Dr. Zdravko Tomac on the constitutional law and the position of the Italian minority in Slovenia

Zagreb, 6 December - Vice-President of the Croatian Government Dr. Zdravko Tomac, following yesterday's passing of the Constitutional Law on the Rights of Ethnical Communities and Minorities stated that the law ensures all minorities in Croatia rights in keeping with the highest European standards. The law, added Dr. Tomac, was passed following the example set by Southern Tyrol and the protection of the Austrian minority in Italy, while taking into account also all previously acknowledged rights stipulated in all international agreements signed by Yugoslavia. All minorities will in future have direct representatives in the Croatian Sabor (Parliament), while Italy, Slovenia and Croatia are to sign an international accord, resolving the issues that have arisen following the establishment of the new states and borders which now separate the Italian minority in Istria.
