Will the proposed constitution come before Parliament?

Ljubljana, 6 December - President of the Slovene Parliament Dr. France Bučar today sent the proposed constitution to be placed before the Slovene Parliament for debate. The new constitution was to be discussed by the Delegates on December 23, but considering that some of the Clubs of Delegates have already announced publicly (via the mass media) that, due to the controversial Article 55. on the right to abortion, they do not intend to vote for the constitution in its current form, Dr. France Bučar stated that the proposal would be taken from the agenda unless an agreement is reached by the opposing sides by December 23. Dr. Bučar's decision is based on Article 439. of the constitution currently in force, which specifies that proposals not agreed upon at joint parliamentary sessions can not be placed before Parliament before the expiration of one full year. In this event, the debate on the new constitution will be deferred an entire twelve months.
