The Standpoints of the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs concerning the United States' sanctions against Yugoslavia

Ljubljana, 7 December - We have information that the government of the United States of America has introduced sanctions against Yugoslavia. It has ceased the advantages which were distributed according to the preferntial system, it has stopped its support of eastern European democracies according to the SEED program and has annulled the bilateral agreement on export permits for textiles. This has supposedly been carried out in agreement with the European Community and in support of its measures. The USA anticipates that these measures will persuade the battling parties in Yugoslavia to cease hostilities and find a peaceful solution to their conflict. In addition to this, the USA supports the activities of the Red Cross which is giving aid to the refugees and permits it to use its military aircraft for the transport of medical and humanitarian aid.
