Slovenian Prime Minister Lojze Peterle in Venetians Slovenia

Ljubljana, 15 December - At a ceremony in Špeter in Venetian Slovenia today Lojze Peterle stressed the necessity of passing the law on the global protection of the Slovenian minority and also stressed the need for a "great realism" which means that Slovenians living in the province of Videm should have a lower degree of protection when taking the regional reality into account. Lojze Peterle opposed to this and said that the present differences would not exist if the Slovenians, ever since they have lived in Italy, would have had the same possibilities of development and that gradualism can only come into question when gradually reaching the same level of rights, and not a different level of these rights.
