Ljubljana, 17 December - The territory of the Republic of Slovenia, which covers an area of 20.256 square kilometers, lies on the border of Central Europe and the Mediterranean between the Bay of Trieste on the Adriatic Sea and the southern border of the Eastern Alps. Due to its position on the crossroads of four of Europe's largest natural regions (the Alps, the Pannonia Basin, the Dinaric Mountains and the Mediterranean) it has always had a distinctly transitional character and was always an important traffic and geographic crossroads.
