Vance warns of danger of Brussels decision
Washington, 18 December - A premature recognition of Yugoslav republics could have very negative consequences. There is danger that the armed conflicts will intensify and spread, warned UN General Secretary's special envoy to Yugoslavia Cyrus Vance on an American TV programme last night. He does not discount the possibility that Serbia will refuse further participation at the Hague Peace Conference. This would call into question the whole process because Serbia holds a "key role". In addition, Vance said that the republics which are certain that they will be recognized will no longer be interested in the Conference.
