Letter of Dr. Dimitrij Rupel

Ljubljana, 19 December - The Slovenian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Dimitrij Rupel, sent a letter today to the presiding member of the Council of Ministers, Mr. Hans van der Broek, to the ministers of the other members of the Twelve, to Lord Carrington and to the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Austria and Iceland, as an answer to the letter of Van der Broek, stating that Slovenia desires to be recognized as an independent state, that she is willing to accept the Declaration on the Guidelines for the Recognition of New States, that she is willing to recognize the ECSC, the established mechanisms of international supervision regarding the protection of human rights, that she is supporting the endeavors of the Secretary General of the United Nations and the Security Council of the UN. The Republic of Slovenia proposed that the Conference on Yugoslavia should address also the issues pertaining to the legal succession of the former Yugoslavia.
