The mission of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development arrives to Slovenia
Ljubljana, 9 January - The delegation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will be on a fact finding mission in Slovenia, extending from January 13 to January 17. It will be led by the vice-president of the Bank, Dr. Klaus Hoffarth. The programme of the visit was discussed and approved by the Slovenian Government today. It is of utmost importance regarding this visit that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development was the first international institution that turned to the Slovenian Government in order to obtain its consent for a fact finding mission, the intention of which is to learn more about the conditions prevailing in Slovenia and its intentions regarding the future cooperation. This commission was established about a year ago with the intent to further the market economies and democracy in the countries pertaining to the former Eastern Europe. The explicit goal of Slovenia is to become a full and independent member of this and other international financial institutions. The target population of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development are the countries of the Eastern Europe, while the membership is basically open. The only conditions for obtaining the financial and technical assistance are the democratic processes and market economy oriented reforms. Most of the financial aid offered by this institution is intended for entrepreneurial activities and only part of it can be diverted to infrastructure.
