REVIEW OF SLOVENIAN PRESS RELEASES, Ljubljana,January 15, 1992 (STA)
Ljubljana, 15 January - DELO: RIPE AND GREEN FRUIT - Slovenia has finally reached the day when recognitions of independence will shower upon it. However, we must, with a bitter smile, admit that in the basket of Slovenian independence there is more green than ripe fruit, though one of them is consecrated. And so, before the "vital historic day we have awaited for centuries," Slovenia is its old self again, quarrelsome, insidious and godfearing. It has sunken into high prices, for which it cannot blame the "Southerners", the victorious election coalition has been dissolved, the government is pressed, the Prime Minister is being thwarted by his own associates, the Italians bother us with ethnic minorities... If Slovenia has managed to become a state, it should behave like one: not like four million working hands but like two million Louis XIV's: we are all the state and the state is everyone of us, writes Stane Ivanc in the Topic of the day.
