Weekly Review of Events Involving Slovenia from 19 to 25 February

Ljubljana, 26 February - Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel this week downplayed concerns about the latest developments in Slovenia's relations with its neighbours Italy and Austria, saying Slovenia should feel more self-confident as it is in a good position. The recent frictions in relations continued to feature highly, with the current and former presidents weighing in with their opinions on the issues as well. Meanwhile, the government managed to push through controversial amendments to the act on public servants that will give it wide powers to fire senior public servants. Angered by the changes, two leading opposition parties have asked the Constitutional Court to quash the changes.
