Ljubljana, 15 March - Below is a schedule of events for Wednesday, 16 March:

BRDO PRI KRANJU/LJUBLJANA - Uzbek President Islam Karimov is due to meet President Janez Drnovsek and National Council President Janez Susnik as well as attend a business conference as part of his official visit here. Three economic agreements are to be signed on the occasion. After their talks at Brdo Mansion, the two heads of state are expected to hold a joint press conference at 12:45 PM. The business conference is scheduled for 3 PM. (STA)

BRUSSELS, Belgium - Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel and State Secretary for European Affairs Marcel Koprol are to take part in a meeting of EU foreign ministers, who are expected to take a final decision on the launch of entry talks with Croatia. On the sidelines of the session, Rupel is expected to meet British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw. (STA)

BRUSSELS, Belgium - A two-day meeting of the European Parliament and the national parliaments of the EU is to get underway, debating the reform of the Lisbon Strategy. Slovenia is to be represented by MPs Anton Kokalj (NSi), Milenko Ziherl (SDS), Feri Horvat (ZLSD) and Mitja Slavinec (LDS) and councillors Marta Turk and Jozko Cuk.

PODGORICA, Serbia-Montenegro - A parliamentary delegation headed by Speaker France Cukjati is to meet Montenegro's Prime Minister Filip Vujanovic and President Milo Djukanovic before wrapping up a three-day visit to Serbia-Montenegro.

LJUBLJANA - The National Council is to meet at noon to debate the government-sponsored plan of activities in the EU for this year.

LJUBLJANA - Croatian Ambassador to Slovenia Mario Nobilo is to deliver a lecture on benefits of Croatia's EU membership for the EU; at noon.

ROME, Italy - A delegation of the parliamentary commission for Slovenians abroad is to begin a two-day visit to Italy, where it is to hold talks with representatives of the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of the Italian Parliament, as well as Slovenians in The Vatican.

LJUBLJANA - The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, the British Council and the Centre for Mobility and European Education & Training
Programmes are to hold a round-table discussing long-term strategical goals in higher education. The opening address is to be made by Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Jure Zupan and British Ambassador Hugh Mortimer; at 9 AM.

LJUBLJANA - A panel on media rights and responsibility in contemporary society is to be held by the Council of Europe Information and Documentation Centre; at 10 AM.

LJUBLJANA - An initiative for the future of NGOs is to hold a meeting at 4:30 PM to present a draft agreement on cooperation between NGOs and the government.

MARIBOR - Minister of Health Andrej Brucan is to visit the Maribor general hospital, where he is to outline his vision of the future development of Slovenian health care, in particular in the Maribor region.

LJUBLJANA - Minister of Health Andrej Brucan is to receive his Irish counterpart Mary Harney at 5 PM.

LJUBLJANA - ACNielsen Slovenija is to present the results of a regional market research survey Shopper Trends at a press conference scheduled for 10 AM.

LJUBLJANA - A press conference ahead of a ceremony to mark the 45th anniversary of Iskra Avtoelektrika, the automotive parts manufacturer; at 11 AM.

LJUBLJANA - The curtain is to be raised on the 7th International Festival of Documentary Film; at 6 PM.
