President Kučan receives Mayors of three municipalities

Ljubljana, 19 February - The Slovenian President Milan Kučan today received a delegation of Mayors from the municipalities of Doberdob, Sovodje and teverjan. The Mayor's have informed the President about the measures passed by the regional supervisory body of the Friuli-Julia region, removing from the statutes of those municipalities with the majority of Slovenian population the clause pertaining to the equality of the Slovenian language in these communities. This act is even more incomprehensible because it breaks off the long standing, almost 45 year practice of the use of the Slovenian language, which was not threatened even during the periods of strained relations between the two countries and during the cold war.
