PRESS REVIEW FROM SLOVENIA, LJUBLJANA, February 20, 1992 (STA)
Ljubljana, 19 February - SLOVENSKE NOVICE: A REFERENDUM ON IMMEDIATE ELECTIONS PROPOSED - During today's session of Parliament we received numerous calls from our readers asking when at last will the elections to the Slovenian Parliament be held, writes the journalist from the Slovenske Novice newspaper. The people who are finding it increasingly difficult to make ends meet can no longer bear the reoccurrence of the all night political sessions which are reminiscent of the past. The journalist adds that quite a number of callers proposed that if the parties do not reach agreement a referendum should be held so that Slovenia gets a new parliament immediately. According to the new Constitution this represents a citizens initiative which is a lawful instrument of exerting pressure on authorities and of reaching decisions about important matters.
