Schedule of Events for Friday, 17 June

Ljubljana, 16 June - Below is a schedule of events for Friday, 17 June:

BRUSSELS, Belgium - EU leaders, among them Prime Minister Janez Jansa, are scheduled to conclude their two-day summit in Brussels. Jansa is accompanied by Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - The parliamentary committee for European affairs is to discuss the upcoming meeting of the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council, a session behind closed doors is due to begin at 2 PM.

LJUBLJANA - Alojz Peterle, MEP and OSCE special envoy to Central Asia, is to hold a news conference at 12 AM, to talk about the situation in the countries of Central Asia upon his return from Kyrgyzstan. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - Austrian Minister for Social Security, Generations and Consumer Protection Ursula Haubner is to pay a visit at the invitation of Minister of Labour, Family and Social Affairs Janez Drobnic. The ministers are to meet at 8:45 AM.

LJUBLJANA - The Workers' Association of the European People's Party (EPP) is to hold a meeting in Ljubljana (through 20 June) at the invitation of Slovenian MEP Miha Brejc. A news conference is scheduled for 11 AM. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - The Economic and Social Council is to meet at 10 AM, to discuss a number of bills, including the bill on collective agreements.

IDRIJA - European Commissioner for Science and Research Janez Potocnik is to visit commutator producer Kolektor Group, at 12:30 PM.

LJUBLJANA - The Chamber of Commerce's committee for competition and international cooperation is to meet at 10 AM, to discuss ways if improving Slovenia's competitiveness on the global market.

LJUBLJANA - The National Council is to hold a session at 12 AM, to present its position on the government-proposed bill that would strip the president of the upper chamber of his salary. The councillors are also expected to elect new leadership.

ROGLA - Justice Minister Lovro Sturm is to address participants of a meeting of judges, dubbed the Days of Slovenian Judiciary.

BRDO PRI KRANJU - The Ministry of Justice is to hold a panel on pending denationalisation cases, to begin at 9:30 AM.

KRANJSKA GORA - The second day of the four-day international conference themed "Prevention of Violence against Children in Regions Affected by Armed Conflict and Social Adversities".

LJUBLJANA - The Bavarian-Slovenian Association is to hold a ceremony at 7 PM to mark its 10th anniversary.

LJUBLJANA - A bust to writer Mira Mihelic (1912 - 1985) is to be unveiled at 5 PM in the garden of the headquarters of the Association of Slovenian Writers (DSP), to highlight her role as the chair of the Slovenian PEN Centre and vice-chair of International PEN.
