Ljubljana, 23 June - Below is a schedule of events for Friday, 24 June:

LJUBLJANA - Parliament is to hold a special session at 8 PM on the eve of National Day. The central ceremony marking the declaration of independence 14 years ago is to take place at the Kongresni trg square in Ljubljana (9 PM) with keynote address delivered by President Janez Drnovsek. (STA)

BELGRADE, Serbia-Montenegro - The committee of successors to the former Yugoslavia dealing with the division of embassies and consulates, is to meet after a two-year intermission. (STA)

VIENNA, Austria - The beginning of a two-day meeting of the Party of European Socialists (PES), to be attended by the president of the Slovenian Social Democrats (SD) Borut Pahor.

LJUBLJANA - The parliament's EU affairs committee is to debate several current EU topics at a session starting at 2 PM. A statement for the press is scheduled at 3:30 PM.

LUXEMBOURG, Luxembourg - A meeting of the EU Environment Council, to be attended by Environment Minister Janez Podobnik. The ministers are expected to debate a directive on the protection of underground waters.

SAN FRANCISCO, United States - Former President Milan Kucan is to attend the World Leaders Summit celebrating 60 years since the signing of the United Nations Charter.

TACEN - The opening at 10 AM of the European White-Water Championships. The first day of competition will see qualifying and the finals of the 3xK-1 and 3xC-1 team events. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - Organisers of the Ana Desetnica festival of street theatre are to present this year's event at a press conference scheduled for noon.
