Ljubljana, 6 September - With the German early elections scheduled on 18 September and the ruling Social Democrats trailing their Christian Democrat challengers, the TV debate on Sunday between Chancellor Schroeder and opposition leader Merkel seemed Schroeder's only chance to turn the tide.
